The Badly-Behaved Poets’ Society is a bold, irreverent and riotously funny piece in which dead poets clash in the afterlife over art, freedom, and legacy.
Robert Burns -unshackled and thriving in the afterlife - greets Giovanni Pascoli, a boozy, brooding Italian poet. Burns considers him a perfect addition for his poetry society and proceeds to enrol him without fully disclosing the consequences of decisions in the afterlife.
When Pascoli becomes suspicious, the two titans thrash it out: morality, consequences and the messy business of legacy.
Developed in Glasgow and rooted in Scotland’s radical literary tradition the piece offers a compelling portrayal of Robert Burns, conflicted and full of contradictions, whilst also offering insight into the lesser known but fascinating, Giovanni Pascoli.
